ACNC to review Deductible Gift Recipients
From 1 July 2020, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) will be reviewing charities that have been endorsed with deductible gift recipient status (DGR) and, in particular, public benevolent institutions (PBI).
The ACNC has stated that it will review approximately 500 Public Benevolent Institutions using the following risk criteria:
- By February 2020, the charity’s record on the Charity Register:
- had no governing document; or
- had only one or no Responsible Person listed.
- The charity was registered as a Public Benevolent Institution before 3 December 2012.
- The charity is not regulated by ORIC.
There is therefore a clear incentive for charities to review and ensure that the information they have registered with the ACNC is up-to-date.
To assist with this process, the ACNC has provided a self-assessment tool to charities.
Please contact us if you have any questions in relation to charity registration.
